Monastery Overgrown Ruins

The main idea behind this project was to challenge myself to learn new techniques and softwares and create some simple foliage for the first time and basically do everything my self.
So to start I searched for references from historic buildings from my country, because our history is so rich and we have plenty of places to be inspired by.
Since one of the things I wanted to learn to do was a trim sheet I decided to go with the look of the "Stara Mitropolia", located in the town of Nesebar, plus some inspiration taken from the "Rila Monastery".
I did the blockout in Blender to establish correct proportions and decide on the composition.
The trim sheet was done in Blender, Zbrush and Substance Painter. All of the other materials were created in Subtance Designer, which was another one of my challenges, because before that I have pretty much never used it.
The foliage's geometry was done in Blender and was textured in Substance Designer.
For the tree I decided that it is time for yet another challenge, which was to create the entire tree trunk only in Zbrush.
All of the texturing was done in Substance Painter, excluding the base materials from Designer.
For the next challenge I wanted to learn to blend materials in Unreal Engine 4, so I downloaded a ground material (these textures, plus the leaves for the tree are the only one I didn't create) and tried to blend the two materials for a more interesting and vibrant look of the ground. The terrain I created using Unreal's tools for landscape sculpting.
And for the last piece of the project, the lighting, I wanted to create a really warm and cozy feeling, where despite the building being ruins and the whole place overgrown with vegetation, you feel welcome to explore it.
I hope you like my scene. I have put a lot of work during the two months it took me to create it and I have to say that I am really happy with the result.
